Singin' in the Rain - A hit in 2011.

In 2011, Glen Eira College performed a version of Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly’s ‘Singin' in the Rain’. Based on the 1950s Hollywood film, the musical comedy follows the romance between Don Lockwood (Taui Mead, Year 12) and Lina Lamont (Maria Koulaginis, Year 9). Don and Lina are a famous Hollywood couple – but only on the big screen, as in real life Don cannot deal with the brainless, self-absorbed Lina. Unfortunately, Lina mistakes their onscreen romance for real love, while Don only has eyes for aspiring actress Kathy Selden (Naomi Langberg, Year 11) However, when Don and Lina’s recent film ‘The Duelling Cavalier’ is transformed into a musical, trouble brews. While Don is an accomplished song-and-dance actor, Lina’s voice requires the efforts of a singing coach, but to no avail – they decide to dub over her voice. Kathy Seldon is cast in the movie and Don falls for her while working alongside her. Will Kathy continue to be an aspiring actress or will she get the break she deserves?

The Production offers our students a wonderful opportunity to develop themselves through drama, dance and singing. By participating in the production, students gain great confidence, learn to communicate with a group of likeminded performers and have experiences that they will remember for years to come.
