ACE Program

At Glen Eira, we know how important it is to know each student and recognise their individual needs. Only then can we allow them to reach their innate potential. We also know how competitive the world of secondary education is as students vie for coveted and limited tertiary placements.

Does your son or daughter
* enjoy a challenge?
* read widely and enjoy discussions?
* get involved in school or community activities?
* miss having classmates with similar interests and values?

Is he or she
* motivated to achieve success in his/her studies?
* frustrated by teachers going over the same material time and again?
* interested in issues such as our environment, the plight of the underprivileged and world politics?
If so, the ACE program could be the answer.

The ACE program provides
* a more challenging learning environment
* a faster paced curriculum with less repetition in English, SOSE, Science and Mathematics
* the opportunity to work with more abstract and more complex texts and issues
* the opportunity to work independently and cooperatively with other students of similar interests and abilities
* opportunities to explore the student’s interests

Our ACE program was reviewed late in 2007 following its first four years of operation. Parents, students and staff involved in the program were unanimous in their support for its continuation with one parent saying that she had never seen her son happier than he was in the Year 8 ACE class. Parents and students were also pleased that, while students had extension and challenge in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and SOSE, they were still able to mix with mainstream students in PE, LOTE, Art and Technology subjects. This has ensured that ACE students are in no danger of being ostracised or isolated, rather, they are encouraged to pursue this challenging program.

Entry into the program is based on
* a test administered by Edutest which assesses verbal and mathematical reasoning ability, English comprehension, computation skills and written expression
* information from the applicant’s primary school
* information from the applicant’s parent(s)/guardian(s)

The College may also request an interview with applicants.

Testing is arranged for early May although additional testing is arranged on occasion.
Please contact the college for information.

The next test date for entry into the ACE program 2013 is the 19th May 2012.  Click here for online registration. There is a registration fee of $65.00.
