The National Year of Reading 2012

'Is about children learning to read and keen readers finding new sources of inspiration.  It's about supporting reading initiatives while respecting the oral tradition of storytelling.  It's about helping people discover and rediscover the magic of books.  And most of all, it's about Australians becoming a nation of readers'.  (National Year of Reading website).

The Glen Eira College Library, is committed to providing an environment conducive to the promotion of reading for pleasure. Author visits, literary competitions, scheduled reading programs as well as a number of lunchtime activities have been planned for 2012.  The acquisition of fiction will be a library priority with greater emphasis placed on student involvement in text selection.

In recognizing the National Year of Reading, a number of special events have been organised for Term 2.

They include:

State Library of Victoria

To fully prepare our Year 11 and 12 students for the year ahead, all VCE students attended an Information Skills workshop at the State Library of Victoria.  Beginning with a tour of the Library and the various exhibitions, an Information Skills workshop followed.   Concentrating on a number of areas, such as, study techniques, research skills and accessing and using e-resources, in particular, databases;  the excursion proved to be extremely useful with very positive feedback from our senior students.
